Prepare and slice the green onion garnish, keeping it ready for topping the crispy tofu before serving.
Press the firm tofu for 10–15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
In a bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with soy sauce until evenly coated, then let sit for 5 minutes to absorb the seasoning.
Sprinkle cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper over the tofu and toss carefully until all pieces are evenly coated with a thin layer.
Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until hot, then add the coated tofu cubes in a single layer without crowding the pan.
Pan-fry the tofu for 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
Transfer the crispy tofu to a plate, garnish with sliced green onion, and serve immediately.
