Prepare the ingredients by thinly slicing the onion and mincing the garlic cloves.
Heat a splash of oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the sliced onions until translucent.
Add the shrimp and minced garlic to the pan, seasoning with salt and black pepper.
Cook the shrimp until they turn pink and opaque, tossing frequently with the onions and garlic.
Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice if desired and remove from heat immediately.
