Cut the potatoes into chunks and boil them until very tender.
Drain the potatoes and mash them with half of the butter and the warm milk until smooth. Keep warm.
Finely chop the onion. Mix half of it with the ground beef and shape the mixture into one oval patty.
Sear the patty in a hot pan until browned on both sides, then transfer it to a plate.
Melt the remaining butter in the same pan, cook the remaining onion until soft, stir in the flour, then add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce and simmer until the gravy thickens.
Return the patty to the gravy and simmer until cooked through and coated with the sauce. Serve with the mashed potatoes.
