Chop the onion and garlic and break the mackerel into large pieces.
Boil the pasta in salted water for 10 minutes until al dente.
Cook onion and garlic in cooking oil for 5 minutes, then add tomato sauce and simmer for 6 minutes.
Add mackerel, pasta, salt, and black pepper and toss without breaking the fish too much.
