Cut the tofu into small, uniform cubes.
Pour the dashi into a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Carefully add the tofu cubes to the broth and heat through.
Ladle a small amount of warm broth into a bowl, whisk in the miso paste until smooth, and pour back into the pot.
Season with a tiny pinch of salt and black pepper if desired.
Remove from heat immediately to preserve miso flavor and garnish with sliced scallions.
