Grind the oats finely in a small blender. Melt 4 g butter and mix with the oats, baking soda and a pinch of salt. Stir in the hot water to make a soft dough, then let stand for 2 minutes.
Divide into four equal pieces. Flatten between sheets of baking paper into rounds about 7 cm wide and 3-4 mm thick. Press cracked edges together; do not add unlisted flour.
Grease a nonstick frying pan lightly with the remaining butter and heat over medium-low heat. Cook the four oatcakes for 5 minutes on one side and 3 minutes on the other, until dry, firm and lightly golden.
Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes so the oatcakes firm up. Serve all four as one bread portion; no cheese or other topping is included.
