Finely chop the onion and slice the mushrooms. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan, add the onion and mushrooms, and cook until softened and lightly golden.
Add the wild rice, stir for about 30 seconds, then pour in the water and a generous pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and cook until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
